Sift the noise
We practice noticing what is true, what is merely loud, and what is asking for our loving attention.
Selah · spiritual direction formation
A little field guide for the Saints & Sifters cohort: the people learning to enter the pause, wait on the Lord, and grow in prayerful attentiveness.
Saints & Sifters is a gathering of companions learning the slow, generous work of spiritual direction. We sift what gets in the way, practice listening beneath the noise, and make room for the Lord to meet us there. Our orientation called this a spacious life with God: open, attentive, and free to receive. Like a vine on a trellis, our formation is supported by practices that make room for life and fruit we cannot force.

Our shared practice
Not a formula. More like a rhythm we keep returning to.
We practice noticing what is true, what is merely loud, and what is asking for our loving attention.
We return to silence—not to perform it perfectly, but to make room for the Spirit’s gentle movement.
We trust that faithful listening is already a form of response, even when the next step is not yet clear.
The Selah lens
Structure serves life. It gives the vine room to abide, grow, and bear fruit in its season.

Each is planted deeply in the love of God.
Nourished by mercy, reconciliation, and the very life of God through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Shaped and transformed by the presence and life of God in the Word.
Prayer at the heart of a with-God life: Lord, teach us to pray.
They steady the growing life and hold its fruit.
We are learning to receive God’s love as a wide-open place—not a cramped life of fear, hurry, or performance.
We pay attention to the presence and movement of the Triune God, sensing invitation rather than chasing certainty.
Formation is not something we force. We practice surrender and notice what the Spirit may be growing in us.
Christian mysticism gives us room to honor lived awareness of God’s presence, including the holy unknowing we cannot master.
A Rule of Life offers a compassionate rhythm for growth: structure that supports freedom, pruning, and new life.
Spiritual direction is attentive companionship in which we notice the Triune God’s forming work and grow in responding to God in love.
A cohort practice
Take a minute to become settled, attentive, and present to the Lord.
Settle your shoulders. Notice your breath. Wait without forcing an answer.
The Sifter’s table
Spaciousness is a gift.
Surrender before striving.
